Definitions:

  • Expressing regretful pain or sorrow for past offenses (MW)
  • Showing that you are sorry for something you have done because it was wrong (CAM)

Vices:

  • Excess: Self-loathing, hating yourself for past mistakes
  • Deficit Shamelessness, the lack of a properly formed conscience

Example:

Seeking forgiveness from those you have offended
