Definitions:

  • The craving for honor, which is the manifestation of a certain reverence for a person in witness of his excellence(New Advent)
  • An ardent desire for rank, fame, or power / The desire to achieve a particular end (Summa Theologica)
  • The desire for recognition of one’s perceived virtues (Merriam-Webster)

Vices

  • Excess: over-ambition, the desire for honor beyond what is reasonably due or the acceptance of honor for oneself rather than God
  • Deficit: Laziness, sloth, the lack of desire for excellence or virtue
