Definitions:

  • A personal choice to rise above one’s circumstances and demonstrate the ownership necessary for achieving desired results (PartnersinLeadership.com)
  • A willingness to take ownership of one’s actions and their consequences (Merriam-Webster)
  • A commitment to the fulfillment of one’s duties and roles, to the best of their ability.

Vices:

  • Excess: Perfectionism, workaholics, the attempts to fulfill some duties beyond what is reasonable or healthy at the expense of other roles
  • Deficit: Indolence, lack of initiative, the failure to fulfill one’s duties to the level that is rightfully due them.

Example:

Choosing to work until the last minute of your shift, even when you’re tired and ready to leave.
